Where to Get Dental Nightguards in Thibodaux Area

Where to Get Dental Nightguards in Thibodaux

Teeth grinding is a fairly common condition medically referred to as bruxism. This condition is more common in children, but reliable research also points out that at least 1 of 10 adults also suffer from it. Bruxism not only causes discomfort but can lead to a myriad of dental issues in the future. The most popular remedy for the condition is dental nightguards. You can get your dental nightguards in Thibodaux at Acadia Family Dentistry. Dr. Nhu Le has years of experience in the field.

What Is a Dental Nightguard?

A dental night guard is a plastic appliance or mouthguard for grinding teeth. Since teeth grinding happens as you sleep, you are supposed to wear this plastic appliance in your mouth before going to bed. Dr. Nhu Le states that a dental nightguard’s primary purpose is to absorb the pressure of the teeth grinding. Thus, it reduces the damage that the grinding causes on the enamel of the teeth. A worn-out enamel usually results in dental problems like:

  • Increased teeth sensitivity
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Painful or locked jaws

Most of these issues would need you to undergo comprehensive restorative dental treatments to overcome.

Treating Bruxism

Acadia Family Dentistry makes customized dental nightguards in Thibodaux, but this is only half the treatment. The dental clinic also goes out of its way to address the underlying issue. Dr. Nhu Le points out that teeth grinding can be caused by sleep apnea, a sleeping disorder that causes breathing difficulties. The body often reacts to breathing difficulties through reflex mechanisms in an attempt to reopen the airway.

The reflex mechanism involves the lower jaw moving forward to reopen the airways, which leads to teeth grinding. Our dental clinic in Thibodaux also treats sleep apnea to stop teeth grinding. The treatment for this sleeping disorder involves wearing a small device in the mouth, which helps keep the airway open as you sleep.

Acadia Family Dentistry in Thibodaux offers class-leading dental services, including treatment to stop teeth grinding. You can reach the clinic through (985) 303-2920 for new patients and (985) 446-2888 for existing patients to book an appointment.
