Covid-19 Health Update

Acadia Family Dentistry considers the health and safety of our patients and staff as our highest priority. We have implemented some additional precautionary measures apart from the universal precautions to ensure the health and well-being of everyone. Some of these measures are:
  • Scheduling high-risk patients at designated times
  • Subjecting all patients to a temperature scan at the entrance to ensure their temperatures are below 100.4 degrees.
  • Disinfecting reception room, check-in and check-out countertops and bathrooms every hour, and wiping doorknobs and sinks with disinfectant regularly.
  • Hydrogen peroxide rinses provided before treatment begins.
  • All patients will call to notify staff of their arrivals and wait in the car until they are ready to be seen.
  • Removing magazines, toys, and non-essential items from the reception room.
  • Practicing social distancing: which includes no handshaking and hugging.

Intraoral cameras and other dental technologies at Thibodaux, LA dental practice

Smiling young couple

At Acadia Family Dentistry, we are committed to using the latest dental technologies, materials, and techniques to provide the safest, most comfortable care experience possible for our patients in the Thibodaux, Houma, Chackbay, Labadieville, Schriever, Raceland, Gray, and surrounding LA communities. This includes technologies such as intraoral cameras to improve your quality of care.

What are intraoral cameras?

An intraoral camera is a dental camera that is used to take high-resolution digital images of the structures inside of your mouth. Using the camera, we can take pictures of either your whole mouth, or specific areas within it, particularly hard-to-reach areas that might otherwise be difficult to see. Intraoral cameras are sometimes used to replace the small dental mirrors that you’ve seen your dentist or hygienist use.

The camera itself typically looks like a pen that we move around your mouth to take detailed pictures. After we take them, we can then pull up those images on the computer to show you exactly what is happening inside your mouth. We can also zoom in on the pictures to enlarge specific areas of concern, enabling us to visualize more clearly and accurately the structures in your mouth than what our naked eye can see.

When intraoral cameras might be used

Intraoral cameras are a great tool for both dentists and patients alike! We use them for a wide variety of purposes, such as:

  • Detecting oral health problems early on when they are easiest to treat
  • Planning out necessary treatments for your oral health
  • Taking “before” and “after” pictures to document your treatment progress
  • Using the pictures as an educational tool to help you see and understand any dental issues that we find
  • The pictures can even be useful when we are submitting dental insurance claims

At Acadia Family Dentistry, intraoral cameras are just one of the many technologies that we have invested in to enhance the way we provide dental care to you and your family. Technology has truly revolutionized the world of dentistry and enables us to provide safer care that is more comfortable and has fewer side effects than ever before.
