Routine Cleanings for Teeth in Thibodaux Area

We support healthy mouths, minty-fresh breath, and brilliant smiles with routine Professional Cleanings

We at Acadia Family Dentistry embody our practice name. Led by Dr. Jared Plamer, our team in Thibodaux, Louisiana, supports the oral health needs of families throughout the heart of Acadiana. Our patients’ best interests are always at heart. We enjoy treating your family as members of our own families with a blend of advanced dentistry and individualized, pleasant dental care.

Relationships are built on a schedule of dental check-ups. During check-ups, Dr. Palmer examines patients’ teeth, gums, and oral tissues for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, pre-cancers, cancerous lesions, and other abnormalities. No check-up is complete without cleanings.

Why professional cleanings are important

Cleanings by professional dental hygienists who use professional and highly specialized techniques and instruments are fundamental to a healthy mouth; brushing and flossing cannot remove all of the sticky bacteria plaque that builds up on the teeth. Plaque hardens to become tartar or calculus, which is incredibly stubborn and cannot be removed with “standard” toothbrushes and home care techniques.

Tartar erodes the tooth structure and also releases toxins, which break down the gums and bone that support and surround our teeth. By gently removing the plaque and tartar from the teeth and at the gumline, our hygienists support sustained dental and periodontal (gum) health and function. The risks of developing cavities and more advanced decay, or gum disease, are minimized. Furthermore, early-stage enamel erosion and gingival inflammation can be halted with preventive, professional cleanings.

It is important to note that symptoms of erosion or early-phase gum disease are often “silent” or so subtle that they are easy to miss. Only professionals like Dr. Palmer or our hygienists can identify oral problems in their earliest, symptom-free stages. Dr. Palmer also leverages gentle, safe, and precision X-rays to accurately and quickly confirm diagnoses of conditions that might otherwise go unnoticed without routine check-ups.

A healthy process

Throughout these cleanings, our hygienists also discuss and demonstrate ways for you to optimally remove surface stains, bacteria, food particles, and plaque from the teeth and other areas of the mouth that harbor disease-causing germs (such as the palate and tongue). We’ll also make recommendations for oral care products and professional preventive services that are personalized to you and as-needed. These services may include the application of dental sealants to decay-prone, grooved back teeth. Services could also include fluoride supplementation to remineralize the teeth and (even to reverse cavities), and a variety of oral appliances, from mouthguards to protect oral tissues from damage during contact sports to nightguards to prevent chips and fractures caused by chronic bruxism or teeth grinding.

Last but certainly not least, our patients love how great their mouths feel after their teeth are cleaned and polished! Our patients’ breath is also minty-fresh, and there is a renewed desire to take great care of their smiles.

We at Acadia Family Dentistry look forward to taking care of your family’s smiles! All patients need check-ups at least once every six months. More frequent visits may be necessary if you smoke or have other risk factors for oral problems. Or, we may detect the presence of gum disease that requires more aggressive care; for instance, a “deep cleaning” (Scaling and Root Planing) can resolve active disease and preserve natural tissues.

Call (985) 303-2920 without delay to schedule your exam and cleaning with Dr. Palmer and our kind and knowledgeable team in Thibodaux. We’ll see you soon!
