Sedation Dentistry Thibodaux LA

Many patients who visit our office ask, “Will my treatment hurt?” Dental fear and anxiety are very real among a significant portion of our patient base. Thankfully, modern dentistry offers several options for coping with this fear and anxiety with sedation dentistry. When you visit Dr. Palmer and our team at Acadia Family Dentistry in Thibodaux, Louisiana, you will be happy to learn that we offer multiple sedation options for our patients.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a widely utilized dental sedation method that has proven successful for decades in treating dental anxiety and fear. It is safe and effective for sedation and consists of nitrogen and oxygen. When you inhale nitrous oxide, you will begin to feel incredibly relaxed while remaining awake. You will be able to recognize and respond to any request your dentist may have for you during your treatment. Nitrous oxide is a form of sedation that will allow you to drive yourself home after treatment, requiring no other friend or family member to be there to take you home.

Oral Sedation

With oral sedation, you will be prescribed a medication to take prior to your appointment. Oral sedation will make you drowsy, requiring a ride to and from our office. While it can make you drowsy enough to feel like you could sleep, you will remain conscious and be able to cooperate with Dr. Palmer. Before taking this medication, we will provide clear and concise instructions on how to take it. Safety is always our top priority with patients, so please ask us any questions you may have by calling us prior to your appointment.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is a powerful sedation option, but you will remain conscious. While powerful, IV sedation is also highly controllable, allowing our team to provide you with just the right amount of sedative required for your unique and personal circumstances. Benefits of IV sedation include a shorter recovery time and the ability to deal with more severe cases of dental anxiety via a stronger dose of sedative. Again, this is administered in a completely safe manner by a professional specifically trained to administer this form of sedation.
